Pathfinders
Pathfinders is a group of senior (usually) members of the Hendersonville
Church of Christ who are able to meet together periodically during the
work week. Several purposes of this organization are to: serve God and
our fellow man, promote personal spiritual growth among our members,
take the lead in supporting the church’s primary mission (community and
worldwide outreach) and encourage fellowship with one another through
group social interaction. Our goal in all that we do is to honor and
glorify Jesus Christ! Pathfinders not only meets your social needs
(dinging out, trips and parties) but it also feeds your spiritual needs
with Bible study, prayer and your need to do good works (benevolence,
projects such as harvest gathering and meals for the church). The photo above
was taken prior to Thanksgiving of 2007 and is of the food collected
for needy families in the Hendersonville area.
Harvest Sunday
One clear way to express our thankfulness is to share the bounty that
God has given us. Each year church members bring groceries to share
with disadvantaged families in the area. The Pathfinders group meets
prior to each Thanksgiving to pack these groceries in boxes and deliver
them to the disadvantaged families. As a result of their work and the
generosity of many, this year 71 families received food items to make
this Thanksgiving a blessed one.
Valentine Banquet
“Father Knows Best” or so a 50’s sitcom suggested. We say today: “Our Seniors Know Best.” That is, no one knows better than them about
the value of love and affection in marriage. So they put on a Valentine
Day’s banquet. A large group enjoyed a meal and thoughtful time
together. There is so much that we all can learn from these wise
Christians.
Lifeline Screening
On August 17, 2007 the Hendersonville Church of Christ provided
preventative health screenings to our members as well as the
community. Using ultrasound, the performed tests for stroke/carotid
artery blockage, abdominal aortic aneurysm, peripheral arterial
disease and osteoporosis risk. The screening tests are designed
to alert people before symptoms appear. This year seventy-nine
people attended, of which 49 were from our neighborhood families.
Red Cross Blood Drive
Our annual Red Cross Blood Drive was held May 1, 2007 in the church
annex.
Haiti Clothing Drive
When Tim Mastenbrook came he impressed us with how poor our brothers
and sisters in Haiti are; many don’t even have a shirt on their back,
and we have all these clothes in our closets. A list of needed items
and boxes were provided for church members. On October 14 the boxes
were collected and sorted by the Pathfinders and then shipped off to
Haiti. |
