Church of Christ Mission Support
Kalasin, Thailand
In 2007 we began supporting the work in Kalasin, Thailand. We are helping the minister there, Samrit Kammanee, with partial support. Samrit has visited and spoken here on two occasions in the past. The church in Sylva, NC is overseeing the work and collecting the support from at least four congregations. Samrit is the son of a Thai minister and is engaged to a daughter of an American missionary in Thailand. The church he is working with is new with currently seven members in a province of almost 975,000 people.
Gospel Meeting in Buenos Aires
Steve and Dianna returned to Buenos Aires, Argentina where they lived and taught for many years to hold a gospel meeting. The trip was filled with many warm reunions. Steve and his son, Jonathan, spoke at the Villa Urquiza congregation which is located in the heart of the city. The lessons were geared to the outsider to explain the nature of the church. Jonathan also spoke for an area-wide youth gathering. The highlight of the speaking was a seven hour class that 16 Christians and three non-Christians attended. The gospel of Mark was read through and it was shown how this work could be used as a tool to teach the lost. Two in the class were baptized into Christ.
Mission Sunday
Each year the Hendersonville Church of Christ has Mission Sunday where a presentation is made on our activities in the mission field. On June 24, 2007 during morning services Tim Mastenbrook spoke about the work in Haiti. During the evening services Charles Landreth spoke to us about the work in Russia.
Haiti
Haiti is one of our oldest mission works and is overseen by Andy and Becky Newberry. Annually we budget $7,600 to be used in spreading God’s work on this small island country. We have supported the work in Haiti for almost ten years starting with D’Osmond and later adding support for Carice in 2001. Six of our current members along with others have made three trips to Haiti since 1997 to better understand how we can help. Tim Mastenbrook has taken many groups to Haiti and served on the board for the preacher’s training school in Cap Haitian for years. We now provide monthly support or both D’s Osmond and Carice which allows both congregations to have schools for their communities. Each school has several teachers and well over 100 pupils. Without these schools many children would never be able to learn to read and write, or learn about our Lord. Besides the public improvements the real story of our work in Haiti is all the lives that have been changed and that the good news has been preached to hundreds.
Ethiopia
The Hendersonville Church of Christ has helped with the digging of 172 water wells to bring clean water to 700,000 people in Ethiopia. We also have helped in training preachers, educating deaf children and helped them learn how to make a living. Ask Sam Williams for the latest Ethiopian Mission Report where you can read the personal stories of young men and women and of children.
Mission Lazarus in Honduras
We support a children’s home and preacher’s school in Honduras.

Eastern European Missions
EEM is dedicated to spreading the Good News of Jesus to over 400 million people throughout Eastern Europe, Russia and the Ukraine. EEM also trains members how to facilitate educators in promoting character curriculum in schools in the Ukraine. We support EEM with congregational gifts and participation in the annual fund raising dinner held each fall. Hugh and Peggy Price are leading this effort for the Mission’s Committee and are doing a wonderful job. For more information on Eastern European Missions click here.
