Reflections From a Shepherd

Whom Do You Put Your Trust In?

The dictionary defines trust “to put faith in, feel secure, to place confidence in.” You can probably list a lot of things you put your trust in. You trust that your car will start each time you turn the key, and may be that your house will withstand a storm. You probably trust the person who invests your money. But, as we all know, cars don’t always start, houses don’t always withstand storms, and the stock market doesn’t always go up. So maybe you decide to put your trust in people. For example, friends you’ve known forever, or a teacher or mentor, or even a church leader. But then you think of friends who have let you down, or the teacher or mentor who does something shocking, or the church leader who lets a lot of people down through personal failure or thoughtlessness.

So, as you read this you may begin to think there isn’t any thing you can put your trust in. But that’s not true. There is one thing that remains trustworthy forever. You can put your trust in our Lord God Almighty. Proverbs 3:5 says “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.” Then there is Psalm 9:10 – “Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” As we look at these verses, and many more in God’s word, we realize that we can put our trust in Him. Is it any wonder that the 23rd Psalm is one of the most popular Bible chapters in the world? Read it today and put your trust in God.
He won’t disappoint you.
