To Whom Are YOU Committed?

Commitment and dedication are two words that, over the past few years, have lost some of their impact. When I think of these two words, I think of people striving for a goal through team work. Unfortunately, in today’s society, so much emphasis is placed on “I” or “me” that the concept of “team” is put on the back burner. It’s no wonder that a coach like Nick Saban, current coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide, is so successful at turning programs around by getting his players to buy into goals and ideals that will best help the team. It also explains why he was not successful at the pro level where there are so many individuals that are focused on themselves.

There are many parallels that we can draw from this example that can be used in the church today. We must get everyone to buy into the goal of reaching a lost world around us and get the commitment to do what needs to be done. I want to challenge us all to strive to be like the church Paul talks about in First Thessalonians, a church full of faith and commitment to God. Chapter1:3 reads, “We continually remember before our God and Father your work produced by faith, your labor prompted by love and your endurance inspired by hope in our Lord Jesus Christ”. So let’s rededicate and commit to be the church God would have us to be.
