Teacher Appreciation Sunday

We thank you for your faithfulness
In teaching us the word.
So often when you share God's love
A tender heart is stirred.
You are a shepherd to His sheep
And care for those who stray.
We know we are often on your mind
Each time you kneel to pray.
And every time you teach God's word
For every kindness done for us
Is also for the Lord.
You share the wondrous tales of old
And make them fresh and new.
You show us what the Lord is like,
For we see Him in you.

As I think back over the many Sunday school teachers I had I honestly don’t remember a specific class they taught. What I do remember is looking forward to that time with them each week. I don’t remember which teacher taught me the books of the Bible, but I know them. I don’t remember which one taught me taught me the song “Only a Little Boy David”, but I can sing all the words. I don’t know which teacher taught me the “Golden Rule”, but I try to live by it. I don’t remember who challenged me to memorize the Lord’s Prayer, but I can recite it. I don’t remember who was teaching when I first heard the parable of “The Good Samaritan”, but I know who my neighbor is. I don’t remember who first taught me what it means to give my life to Christ, but I did! I don’t remember who first encouraged me to teach my first Sunday school class, but I did it.

You see, often when we look back over our lives and can’t remember the names of all those who greatly impacted us it in a small or large way but what we can do is say thank you to our teachers for the seeds you are planting that will be watered for many years to come. We thank you for the sacrifice of your time and energy to share lessons from God’s word with us from the two-year olds who learn the words to “The Wise Man Built His House Upon the Rock” to us adults who often need to be reminded what to build our house upon! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. -
