Facing the Giants in 2009
In May of this year Terron Talley, youth minister of the Biltmore congregation, and I traveled to Nashville to meet with Hamilton Archibald, minister of the Wonder City congregation, about our trip to Memphis. As we began to discuss the theme and the needs of the kids in Memphis, we quickly landed on the theme of “Facing the Giants.”
We focused on the many giants/challenges that these kids face each day and how God could help them through the tough moments in their lives. We looked at characters from stories in the Old Testament like Joseph, Gideon, and Esther and how God made the
difference in their lives.
When comparing the 2009 week of Kid’s Camp to past years, I can honestly say that this was the best year yet. Our teenagers worked very hard and without complaining or moaning.
They did what they knew had to be done and went the extra mile many times. I was amazed at how intentional many of them were in their conversations with their buddies. I overheard Grant Rivers setting the bar high for his buddies and asking them why they had not given their life to Jesus. Gary, you would have been very proud!
I would like to encourage everyone to be at the next FamilyFocus on Sunday, August 16, to hear an exciting report from our teens of God’s Work in
Memphis!
