“A Smile, a Hand On the Shoulder, a Kind Word …”

Having lived here for over five years, I’ve come to believe that Hendersonville is a wonderful place to call home. We have four generous seasons, mountains, starlit nights, water falls, forests, wildlife, birds, fish, and other amenities. God collected all of these for our enjoyment, but he also put it here to remind us of the one who created it, Jesus our Lord. In fact he tells us that this earth is our temporary home and something many times more wonderful awaits those who remain faithful to Jesus and his word. The song says it well, “This world is not my home, I’m just a’ passing through.”

Far more important in our lives on earth are the fellow Christians that God has given us to enjoy during the few days of our life on earth. Someone might ask, “You mean I have to love those hypocrites in the church?” “Have to” is not the correct phrase, it is “get to.” The tragedies, failures, and undone deeds in life are part of all of us. Yet, just when I need it most, someone who has traveled the same road is there to help me through. While some are strong enough to conquer life for many years, almost every one is brought to his knees with health issues, family issues, money issues, or spiritual issues.

If you see this happening, start the “care and feeding” of the brother or sister who has fallen to life’s woes. We’re all capable of doing that – a simple comforting smile, a hand on the shoulder, a kind word, or the reminder of our precious Savior who can lift us out of the most desperate situation.

Together we can do most anything – even move mountains, if necessary. What do you need to know and remember?, “Jesus loves me this I know, for the Bible tells me so.”

Blessings, Finis
